OK! Here's my hardware configuration.
- Intel DP35DP Mobo,
- Intel Q6600 Quad Core CPU
- 8GB RAM (4X2GB)
- RAID0 160GB X 2 (for boot&windows)
- nVidia 8600GT
Upon first boot after installing Windows Vista x64 w/SP1 RC, the boot time was about 5 minutes.
And yet, this annoying dialog is still working soooo hard on calculating the remaining time it needs to recycle (copy/move) my file(s) in SP1.

Hi there!
I'm experiencing exactly the same problem with my computer, very similar to yours:
Intel dp35dp
8GB OCZ Reaper memory
Intel q6600
Inno3d GeForce 8800GT
Boot takes aprox 4 minutes with Windows Vista Home Premium(64bit) Before I got my 64bit dvd, I was running the 32bit version with all 8GB of memory plugged in. Using that version boot time was extremly fast and the computer ran perfectly. Since the 32bit version can only use 2,54GB of memory I'm thinking that the motherboard got problems running all 8GB of RAM.
Please post if you manage to find a solution.
PS
forgot to mention that I've run memtest for 40 hours with 0 errors, so no problems with the sticks.

OK! It wasn't Vista's fault!
Then who??
A: INTEL!
The not very good news is that Intel released an updated BIOS for DP35DP, DG33TL, DG33BU, DG33FB motherboards on 01/21/2008.
BIOS Version 0345:
Fixed Vista* x64 boot performance with 4GB
It worked, the boot time reduced down to about a minute. However, Intel then removed the two updates on 01/26/2008 which I didn't read the release note before I updated it, damn it!
BIOS VERSION 0353.
New Fixes/Features:
Removed Vista x64 boot performance with 4GB RAM fix.
Removed fix blue screen during Vista UEFI installation.
Here's the release note http://downloadmirror.intel.com/15422/ENG/DP_0372_ReleaseNotes.pdf
I've already email Intel support and complain about it. However, it's been over a week and I've not yet get a response.
Ok, this is hilarious.
Thank you for the tip btw, found the 0348 BIOS version here and it worked like a charm, 50sec boot time, problem solved :)

Unlike you I managed to get in contact with an Intel representive. Well you can all judge for yourself. After a couple of mails back and forward explaining my problem and some tips from him I get this:
Hello Fredrik, Thank you for contacting Intel(R) Technical Support. The system configuration seems to be OK; our only concern, however, is on the memory. We confirm the Intel(R) Desktop Board DP35DP does indeed support DDR2 800 SIMMs; however, these must come with SPD timings of only 5-5-5 or 6-6-6; besides, the Intel(R) Desktop Board DP35DP supports 1.8 V DIMMs only (see http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/dp35dp/sb/CS-026645.htm#features); otherwise, we confirm the system, despite the fact it functions, we confirm it functions out of specs. According to Corsair* website, part number OCZ2RPR800C44GK is 2.1 Volts and its timings are 4-4-4-15 (see http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_ddr2_pc2_6400_reaper_cl4_4gb_edition). If testing with compatible memory does not yet help, we would appreciate if you could, please, reply to this email with the following information, so that we can escalate to our Research Dpt.: 1. Compatible Memory module(s) [please, include the brand, size, frequency and part number of the memory module(s)]: 2. Your phone# and geographical location (this is needed in case someone from our Research Dpt. needs to contact you): Sincerely.

Intel(R) Technical Support
In short Intel is refusing taking any responsibility because OCZ tested the memory at tighter timings then JEDEC DDR2 Standard states. This does not change the fact that they are like any other DDR2 800 SIMM. The only difference is that OCZ tested and quarantees that they will run at different timings IF I wanted to.
I honestly expected more from Intel, a company that I trusted. But hope this can help others with the same problem, cause Intel obviously cant.
Cheers
Fredrik
Here the same problem with Intel DG33BU, 2x2GB Kingston DDR667, Intel E4500... Extremely slow boot with Vista Home Premium x64.
I mailed Intel today...
hi, you can downgrade to the previous version. it's no problem.
this bios also fixes an issue i had since i bought the board. downgrading works fine.
best regards, b.
I'm also using a DG33BU with 6GB RAM and the newest BIOS, why they removed the fix????
yes, u may downgrade to previous version of BIOS, but you'll need to google with the vesion #.
Hey guys,
I am unable to find the BIOS version specified. I am facing the same problem. I have INTEL DP35DP Mobo, intel core 2 QUAD Q6600. 2*4GB Transcend DDR2 800, Seagate 500GB 7200 rpm. It takes a good 10 mins to load win vista ultimate 64bit. I couldnt find the BIOS mentioned. Can anyone please Email it to me at mehuljhaveri@gmail.com.
thanks a lot.
Any other suggestions other than the BIOS downgrade.
Happy Diwali.
I'd like to sincerely recommend getting rid of Vista as soon as possible. I had Vista Premium 64 bit at my AMD machine (Phenom, two 3870 Radeon cards, 4 GB memory). It worked fine for couple of months but with getting more updates from Microsoft, it becomes slower and slower. I'm not sure that the proble is updates but anyway it slows significantly. SVCHOST processes now eats almost half a giga of my RAM, and the explorer is about 150 mega. Also, it now takes a lot of time for opening and closing windows. I've turned off indexing of drives and files, and some other services as well, but to no avail. My last resort was disabling that nice interface and coming back to classic 2k desktop and interface look with no wallpaper. But still the problem persists. By the way, my HP laptop experiences exactly the same problems with 32-bit version of Vista. I'm now going back to my XP on both the desktop PC and laptop. Goodbye, Vista forever!!!
Get the latest BIOS, it should work just fine
